Won't You Be Our Neighbor?

Your neighborhood gym isn't just about working out. It's about making connections, becoming educated, and balanced. Most of us can't go to the gym every day. At the Renova Center, we can attest to that because we work in the building where your neighborhood gym lives and we can't get there every day.

Jeanette thinks we should workout every day. Seriously, Jeanette? Get real. If you are in the building, she will find you. She's the one with boxing gloves on.

Being healthy involves having a balanced life: Work, family, friends, vacations, travel, events, eating right, drinking enough water, sleep, et cetera. Balancing all these things isn't easy.

MAKING CONNECTIONS

Your neighborhood gym can help because it is located in a wellness center where you can learn how you can become balanced to stay healthy.

In the first place, Fitness Norfolk has a Mr. Rogers atmosphere. You walk through the doors, are greeted with a smile from our Mr. or Ms. Rogers who says, "Welcome to Renova. Won't you be our neighbor?" How cool is that? (Okay - they don't actually say, "won't you be our neighbor," but that's what they mean.)

Then you see Fitness Norfolk - aka "Your Neighborhood Gym." More smiles and you connect with your new best friends: The Zero-Impact-Runner, Jeanette, Willie, Nick, Talib, Darion, or Pino. They are thrilled to see you and help you become your best you. You may even hear this song in the background: (Try and get that tune out of your head!)

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood, A beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine? Could you be mine?...

It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood, A neighborly day for a beauty. Would you be mine? Could you be mine?...

I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you. I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So, let's make the most of this beautiful day. Since we're together we might as well say: Would you be mine? Could you be mine? Won't you be my neighbor? Won't you please, Won't you please? Please won't you be my neighbor?

TIPS TO BECOMING EDUCATED

You have to sharpen the saw if you want to cut down a tree.

We've all heard about the saw and tree warning, and sitting is the new smoking. Sitting too long can kill you. A sedentary lifestyle is not our friend. Working out, alone, won't save you. Health TIP: You gotta move every 30 minutes.

These facts can be scary and frustrating. What's a person to do? How can your neighborhood gym help? You can't live in the gym, right? (We've tried and Kresta from Float Norfolk did that once. It wasn't pretty.)

Your neighborhood gym is located in The Renova Wellness Center in the Art District of beautiful downtown Norfolk. Every Wednesday is "Wellness Wednesday," where you can learn more about what works for you to be healthy.

Your first TIP? MOVE every 30 minutes. Do something like put a mini-tramp (rebounder) next to your desk and bounce on it every 30 minutes for at least 30 seconds. If you can't stand on it - sit on it. Just bounce and get your heart rate up, and give your mind a break. If you travel a lot, try jumping jacks. Good for your heart and your right-brain, left-brain pathways.

Come to your neighborhood gym for your next tip. Any day is a good day to come, and Wellness Wednesday is a great day.
